Go Green for 2022!

Can’t think of a New Year’s Resolution? Here is one for you… Go Green for 2022!

It is important we all ACT NOW to keep global temperatures below 1.5°C and reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 before we start to witness the detrimental effects of climate change.

Here are 3 steps to help YOU live greener in 2022:

1. Work towards being plastic-free
Each year around 8 million tonnes of plastic ends up in the ocean. The UK government introduced a ban on plastic straws and cotton buds in October 2020, but there is still there’s still too much pointless plastic in everyday items. There are many ways to work towards using less plastic such as using reusable metal straws, buying veg without a plastic wrap or simply purchasing reusable produce bags given that a single plastic bag can take 1000 years to degrade!

2. Leave the car at home more
Transport accounts for circa 30% of global carbon emissions, and 72% of these emissions come from road transportation such as cars, lorries etc. Next time you reach for your car keys, ask yourself if there is a better way to make that journey? Perhaps consider making a commitment to cycle or bus to work just a couple of times a week? Not only will you get fitter, but it will also save you money too!

3. Shop Locally
It is reported by the Leopold Centre for Sustainable Agriculture that the average fresh food item travels a staggering 1,500 miles to reach our home! By shopping locally, you can help decrease pollution from transportation, by reduced food miles and what is more you would be helping to support your local economy.
Next week I will continue demystifying the jargon around climate change when I consider ‘deforestation.

In the meantime, I would love to hear about what you are doing to ‘Go Greener’ in 2022!
