But do you know what Climate Change really is?
Over the coming weeks we hope to demystify the jargon around Climate Change but first… What is it? Sit back and take just 3 minutes to watch this short video:
There is no doubt that global warming is our time’s largest challenge and the need for climate action grows more urgent by the day!
“Climate Change” refers to a change in the usual global conditions, such as a change in temperature or rainfall, over a long period of time. In the past 140 years, the Earth’s temperature has risen by around 1.1°C. A rise in global temperature is caused by many factors including the release of greenhouse gases (GHG) from human activity such as burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) farming and deforestation.
So why does this matter? Well, this rise in temperature means the Earth will see more weather variations, changing seasons, melting of the ice caps and rising sea levels. It is important we ACT NOW to keep global temperatures below 1.5°C and reach net zero carbon emissions (no more GHG emissions emitted than is taken out) by 2050 otherwise we will face more extreme weather conditions such as heatwaves, wildfires and flooding and is already having devastating effects on the most vulnerable countries and communities.
